Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month

March 1st-March 31st
MS is a chronic neurological condition that affects the central nervous system, which is comprised of the brain and spinal cord. In the CNS, nerve fibers (called axons) are protected by a fatty layer of insulation called myelin. Myelin allows nerve signals to travel properly.
The number of people with MS in the United States is estimated to be between 300,000 and 400,000. Worldwide, an estimated 2.5 million people have MS; these numbers are estimates, however, and because people are living with MS much longer, the true number is assumed to be much higher.
Launched in 2003, National MS Education and Awareness Month is observed in March of each year, and is a nationwide effort by the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and affiliated groups to raise the public's awareness of multiple sclerosis. The vital goals of this campaign are to promote an understanding of the scope of this disease, and to assist those with MS in making educated decisions about their healthcare. Please check out the following links for more information and let's find better days.

Thyroid Awareness Month

January 1st-January 31st
The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped endocrine gland that is normally located in the lower front of the neck. The thyroid’s job is to make thyroid hormones, which are secreted into the blood and then carried to every tissue in the body. Thyroid hormone helps the body use energy, stay warm and keep the brain, heart, muscles, and other organs working as they should. One in 8 women will develop a thyroid disorder in her lifetime, and thyroid disease affects more than 20 million Americans.

National Blood Donor Month

January 1st-January 31st
Every January since 1970, the American Red Cross invites donors to start the year off by giving the gift of life, and each year more than 11 million people donate life-giving blood each year. "January is a challenging time for blood donation because cold and snowy weather and busy post-holiday schedules can make it difficult for blood donors to keep appointments. Regardless of the time of year, hospital patients nationwide need about 44,000 blood donations daily for cancer care, surgeries, and the treatment of serious diseases and trauma."
